How to create your brand ethos with a brand sprint

WHAT TO DO BEFORE YOU SHARE YOUR BRAND WITH THE WORLD

Great you have your idea, and you have your brand mostly together, now you want to share your awesome idea and brand with the world. How do you do that? Let’s start by getting clear on who you are?

What is a brand sprint?

A brand sprint is a set of brand exercises used by Google Ventures and brands all over the world that work by helping to make your brand purpose super clear, and your brand decisions easier. As you start to set up your brand identity and story you will be faced with a lot of different decisions you’ll need to make.

Author of the book ‘Sprint’ Jake Knapp writes that “The point of these exercises, it turns out, is to make the abstract idea of “our brand” into something concrete. After doing the exercises, the team gets a common language to describe what their company is about — and all subsequent squishy decisions about visuals, voice, and identity become way easier.”

Ultimately the brand sprint provides you with your unique selling point (USP), your ingredients and a recipe to refer back to time and time again. Ensuring you stay true to your original idea.

Running a brand sprint involves a series of six timed exercises starting with your brand motivation.

20 Year Roadmap to set short and long-term goals. What, how, why your brand exists

We then get more specific with your Top 3 Values and work to understand who your Top 3 Audiences are and it helps you define your personality and maps out where you stand against your competitors.

My role is to facilitate your brand sprint. I can either do this with you. Or work with you once you have run through the exercises yourself. This allows me to work with you to bring your brand to life in the most effective way.

It’s a good idea to have 2-6 participants / decision makers or if you are smaller entity one ‘decision maker’ in the room will do. The CEO/Founder must be one of the participants and at least one of the following - Co-Founder, Head Of Marketing, Head of Design.

These exercises are pretty easy to work through and provide a simple brand guide — that you can use to make decisions. If you’d like to take a look at some of the exercises download this PDF to start to map out your brand.
